Here are just some examples of our right to freedom of speech and expression. There is nothing an Administrator can do to you for any of this, unless it is vulgar or openly attacks a fellow student:

  • You have the right to hand out leaftlets, papers, student newspapers, newsletters, or fliers.
  • You have the right to express yourself in school newspapers, yearbooks, or student-based newspapers.
  • You have the right to sign and circulate petitions.
  • You have the right to conduct polls and surveys.
  • You may setup information tables as long as they do not block up or congest hallways.
  • You may organize clubs, sponsor activities, or bring speakers to talk about an issue.
  • You may most notices and fliers throughout school designated bulletin boards (Until our school puts up a bulletin board, continue posting fliers everywhere you can. They don’t follow our rights, and we won’t respect their rules.)
  • You may organize a peaceful rally or demonstration at your school, as long as it does not harm classroom instruction. Sit-ins are allowed. The worse they can do is write you up for skipping, and that makes them look bad.
  • You may wear any buttons, badges, insignia, patches, or armbands anywhere on your body.

Remember, as long as you conduct yourself peacefully, respectfully, and with rational thinking, there is nothing they can do to stop you. Remember that you are an American citizen, not just a student, and you have your rights!
